What is Girls for Gender Equality (GGE)?

When and where does GGE meet?
GGE meets on Saturday afternoons at 2 pm.
How old do you have to be to join GGE?
You have to be in middle school or high school.
Do you have to be a girl to join?
Yes. Altough it is crucial to build understanding about inequality with both boys and girls, GGE seeks to provide a supportive atmosphere where girls can comfortably explore and grow. Studies have shown that girls are more likley to participate when the enviroment is single-sex.
Is GGE affiliated with a political party or religion?
No. Girls for Gender Equality is not affiliated with any political party or religion. Gender inequality exists everywhere, with all systems of belief. We do welcome, and in fact, seek, girls of all beliefs.
Can parents attend?
While parents are welcome to sit in on the first meeting that their daughter attends, we hope that parents allow their child to explore and question in a similary-aged group. Please know that all parents are very much encouraged to discuss what their daughter thinks about gender equality and why.
What is an example meeting like?
Meetings will be informal and inclusive. We might watch a short clip, present a newspaper article, or read an excerpt from a book, and then discuss the material. Meetings are designed to be engaging, stimulating, and fun.
