why Gender equality?
While many women and girls now enjoy full political participation and legal rights, there are still an unbelievably large amount of women and girls who are discriminated against. Child marriage, genital cutting and rape, are a few examples of violation of human rights solely affecting women and job discrimination, voting bans, and property-owning rights are examples of women being denied civil rights. These violations of human and civil rights go by largely unnoticed, and because of this ignorance, women continue to be marginalized. The first step to ending this modern-day phenomenon is to encourage awareness and advocacy in girls and young women.
